Theme: “Law and Governance: The Nexus”
The Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), Ijebu Ode Branch, is set to host its 27th Annual Bar Lecture on 10th July, 2025, a flagship event in the legal calendar of the Ogun State legal community.

This year’s edition, themed “Law & Governance: The Nexus,” promises to spark critical conversations on the intersection between legal frameworks and the machinery of governance in Nigeria.
The keynote speaker for this prestigious event is none other than Aare Olumuyiwa Akinboro, SAN, FCIArb (UK), FIMC, Life Bencher, a distinguished legal luminary renowned for his depth of knowledge, mentorship, and longstanding commitment to the advancement of justice and rule of law in Nigeria.
A Senior Advocate of Nigeria with decades of practice and service, Akinboro’s presence is expected to lend considerable intellectual and strategic weight to the discourse.
Organised by the Ijebu Ode Branch of the NBA, this lecture serves as a crucial platform for engaging legal practitioners, policymakers, academics, and civic actors in exploring how law can effectively guide governance, promote transparency, and ensure accountability in both public and private institutions.

In recent years, the relationship between governance and legal structures has become more pronounced, especially with the increasing demand for institutional reforms, ethical leadership, and enforcement of the rule of law. Akinboro, known for his bold advocacy and consistent calls for constitutional integrity, is expected to unpack these complexities and offer pragmatic solutions grounded in constitutionalism and democratic ideals.
His keynote is expected to dissect the intricate relationship between legal institutions and governmental functions — addressing issues such as judicial independence, the role of the bar in governance, the need for law reforms, and how legal frameworks shape public policy and democratic sustainability.
The NBA Ijebu Ode Branch, through this event, underscores its commitment to not just professional excellence but also national development, using the Bar Lecture as a catalyst for ideas and reforms.
Attendees will include judges, senior advocates, magistrates, legal scholars, public officials, and young lawyers, making it a rich forum for robust engagement and knowledge sharing.
As Nigeria continues to grapple with critical governance challenges — ranging from electoral justice to institutional corruption — the theme could not have been more timely. With Aare Olumuyiwa Akinboro, SAN at the helm of this conversation, expectations are high for a powerful, thought-provoking, and transformative dialogue.
The legal community and stakeholders across various sectors are encouraged to mark the date and participate in this significant intellectual gathering.
