Commends Leadership Transition, Reaffirms Lifelong Commitment to Strengthening the Bar Across Nigeria
Prominent legal statesman and former General Secretary of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), Aare Olumuyiwa Akinboro, SAN, has extended heartfelt congratulations to the newly sworn-in executive members of the NBA Damaturu Branch, led by Barr. Ahmad Khalil.
The inauguration, which took place on Saturday in Damaturu, ushered in a new chapter in the leadership of the branch, with Khalil taking the oath of office as Chairman, alongside Barr. Ahmed Mohammed (Vice Chairman), Barr. Abba Maina (Secretary), Barr. Ali Kadai (Assistant Secretary), Barr. Maryam Bamai (Treasurer), Barr. Abdulmalik Isa (Financial Secretary), Barr. Idriss Suleiman (Welfare Officer), Barr. Muhammad Bukar (Publicity Secretary), and Barr. Baba Nuhu (Provost).

In a goodwill message, Aare Akinboro, a Life Bencher and a respected voice in the Nigerian legal profession, praised the seamless transition of leadership and described it as a sign of institutional maturity and democratic strength within the NBA.
He lauded the outgoing Chairperson, Barr. Altine Ibrahim, for her meritorious service and trailblazing achievements during her tenure.
“This smooth and inclusive transition reflects the strength of the NBA and the commitment of its members to progress, unity, and justice. I congratulate Barr. Ahmad Khalil and his executive team on their assumption of office. The task ahead is great, but so is the hope and potential that lie within the branch. May your leadership be marked by vision, inclusiveness, and courage,” Akinboro stated.

Aare Akinboro also commended the branch for conducting peaceful elections and for its growing role in both local and national engagements. He reaffirmed his relentless commitment to strengthening NBA branches across Nigeria—support he has consistently demonstrated through practical, impactful initiatives.
A Legacy of Unmatched Support for the Bar
Over the years, Aare Akinboro, SAN, has become a dependable benefactor to the legal community, providing enduring support to young lawyers, female legal professionals, and NBA branches across all regions. His contributions span:
- Capacity Building: Organizing legal empowerment workshops and training sessions across Brances, equipping young lawyers with tools for professional advancement.
- Infrastructural Support: Donation of law texts, office equipment, and ICT tools to various NBA branches to enhance legal practice and research.
- Welfare Initiatives: Supporting Bar centers, funding welfare schemes for members.
- Mentorship and Inclusion: Championing platforms that bridge gaps between the young lawyers, and promoting diversity within the profession.
- Justice Sector Development: Collaborating with institutions to improve access to justice, including support for pro bono initiatives and human rights advocacy.
“The future of the Bar lies in strong, united branches. A healthy, vibrant NBA begins at the grassroots. My mission has always been to help create a professional environment where every lawyer, regardless of location or age, can thrive and contribute meaningfully to nation-building,” he said.

The Way Forward
Looking ahead, Aare Akinboro encouraged the new executive to deepen partnerships with the Yobe State Government, the judiciary, and civil society actors. He called on them to remain faithful to the ideals of justice, equity, and service.
He also commended Governor Mai Mala Buni for his administration’s support for youth empowerment and legal development in the state, and urged continued collaboration to ensure the legal profession remains a vital force for social progress and democratic consolidation.

“Let your leadership be a model of what is possible when integrity, service, and vision meet. The Nigerian Bar must lead the nation in upholding justice and protecting the rights of all,” Akinboro charged.
