A seasoned advocate, reformist, and thought leader, Aare Akinboro’s illustrious career and unwavering dedication to justice make him the ideal chair for this year’s pivotal session on free speech and criminal defamation.
Aare Akinboro is a Senior Advocate of Nigeria, a Harvard-trained negotiator, a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators (UK), and a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Management Consultants. He is the Principal Partner at Akinboro & Co., a top-tier law firm with offices in Abuja, Lagos, and Port Harcourt, widely respected for its excellence, strategic litigation, and integrity.

A devoted servant of the legal profession and the nation, Aare Akinboro has held numerous high-level appointments, including Member of the Federal Judicial Service Commission, the FCT Judicial Service Committee, the Governing Council of the University of Benin, and the Abuja Chamber of Commerce.
He has served the Nigerian Bar Association as Secretary and Chairman of the NBA Abuja Branch, and as General Secretary of the national body. As a Life Member of the NBA National Executive Committee and a Life Bencher, he holds a permanent seat on the Body of Benchers, the apex regulatory authority of the legal profession in Nigeria.
At this year’s Law Week, Aare Akinboro will chair the session titled: “Criminal Defamation vs. Freedom of Expression: Striking a Balance Between Punishing Malicious Falsehood and Protecting Free Speech.” His thought leadership will guide a vital discussion at the intersection of justice, civil liberties, and the ethical duties of legal practitioners.

Beyond his legal accomplishments, Aare Akinboro is a respected humanitarian, mentor, and community builder. He holds the chieftaincy title of Aare Bamofin of Kuta Kingdom, in recognition of his service and commitment to equity, education, and the empowerment of the underserved.
He is married to Mrs. Flora Taiwo Uruejoma-Akinboro and is a proud father of three. Aare Akinboro brings to every platform a rare combination of intellect, humility, and visionary leadership.
